Abstract:
Eli Lilly, one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the US, attracted faced allegations when it decided to outsource its pre-clinical research practices to China. (PETA) People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) alleged that the company had outsourced its pre-clinical trials to China only to bypass the stringent animal welfare laws prevalent in the US. PETA felt that the company was indulging in severe cruelty measures and thereby filed a resolution against the company in the mid-2000s asking for suitable explanations from the company. The company, on the other hand, claimed that it did not treat animals cruelly. Moreover, the company stated that it had outsourced animal testing procedures to China to save costs and lower its expenses.
